15 miles from historic St. Augustine, World Golf Village offers an unparalleled golfing experience. We were thrilled to play at King and Bear course just before its renovation began this summer. If you're planning a trip to St. Augustine, a visit to World Golf Village is a must for any golf enthusiast.
Stay and Play
For those wanting easy access to both World Golf Village's courses, King and Bear and Slammer and Squire, the Renaissance St. Augustine Resort is the ideal place to stay. This hotel is nestled within World Golf Village, providing comfort and convenience. The on-site bar and restaurant offer great amenities, but the real gem is its proximity to the iconic Murray Brothers Caddy Shack eatery. Overflowing with Murray and Caddy Shack memorabilia, it's a delightful spot to grab a meal and soak in the unique atmosphere. Learn more about the Caddy Shack.
The hotel is also just 15 miles from historic downtown St. Augustine, making it easy to explore this charming area. A must-visit is the River and Fort Restaurant and Rooftop Lounge. Enjoy a meal on the rooftop, where you can watch dolphins play and boats glide through the harbor while tourists explore the fort below. The views are enchanting, and the food and service are outstanding. This experience is not to be missed when visiting St. Augustine.
River & Fort Restaurant and Rooftop Lounge: Food was Delicious and the Staff were amazing.
King and Bear Experience
We only had time for one round before heading to Charleston, so we chose King and Bear, knowing it was soon to close for renovations. Named after its legendary designers, Arnold Palmer (King) and Jack Nicklaus (The Golden Bear), this course lives up to its prestigious namesakes. According to Golf World, it's a "driver's" course, and we couldn't agree more. The layout challenges and delights, offering a memorable round of golf.
Next time, we plan to try Slammer and Squire, which is located closer to the hotel. We're also excited to see the renovations at King and Bear and play the course again in its refreshed state.
Final Thoughts
Our trip to the World Golf Village was a fantastic blend of golf and local culture. From playing the renowned King and Bear to exploring the historic charm of St. Augustine, it was a trip to remember. We can't wait to return and experience even more of what this incredible destination has to offer.
